BVT - LALAKI

An ode to the golden era of pre-colonial/ indigenous Philippines, which throws recognition to it’s queer ancestors.

From honouring those who have tread previously, to celebrating Filipinx today, “Lalaki” is the stamp uniting both centre-points and bears its culture as a future ancestor.

The story behind the film

Music and dance have been a way of passing on culture for centuries. As our world evolves, we adopt new ways of storytelling and keeping culture alive.
LALAKI aims to be a cultural milestone for the Filipinx community.

Lalaki is a nod to the iconoclasm (image-breaking) of our shared culture, heritage and bloodlines that have been erased over time.
It pays homage to pre-colonial queer leaders, stories and materiality to invoke the past to imagine new futures.
The aesthetic combines history, fantasy and the modern lens to explore Filipinx experience and aims to connect those from diaspora with their forgotten ancestry.
