Mr Bassal’s journey to Australia is a reflection of the experiences many migrants have faced over the past 70 years. Australia, known as the “Lucky Country” or the “Promised Land”, has been a beacon of hope for people from all corners of the world seeking a better life.
However, upon arrival, many migrants encountered challenges and resistance of their presence, which was a harsh wake-up call for many new arrivals. This discriminatory behaviour made it difficult for them to feel welcomed in their new home. Despite the obstacles, the resilience of migrants like Mr. Bassal is truly inspiring. Like many others, he persevered and worked hard to establish a life in this new land.
Mr Bassal’s story serves as a reminder of the struggles and triumphs that come with migration, and the importance of embracing diversity and acceptance in our communities. Whether arriving by plane or boat, the adjustment to a new culture, language, and way of life can be overwhelming & the journey has never been easy for new arrivals.

Initially, we started with a simple idea, but as we delved into the topic of migration, talked with the artists, and reflected on personal experiences with migration, the project evolved into something much more profound.
This music video blends documentary storytelling with a powerful track by Big Naz and Zeadala ft Tommy Bassal, exploring past and present stories and experiences. I hope it resonates with many of you and sparks meaningful connections and conversations.
