I directed Mulligan to explore how easy it is to lose sight of the people we care about until we get to the point where we realize that they are no longer around us. I wanted the viewer to experience the burden and grief of our main character “Vincent” when his wife abruptly leaves him and how he learns to deal with all these emotional responses by facing an unexpected situation that, against all odds, takes a comedic turn in his life.
Vincent is not someone extraordinary. He makes mistakes like most of the people out there and I think that’s what makes him very relatable. I would say even more human. In the search for something more, he overlooks the love that has always been right in front of him, quietly waiting to be recognized.
Ultimately, Mulligan balances the emotional burden of loss with the warmth of longing to be loved, as Vincent rediscovers hope and connection, even in the most unexpected places.
