The story behind the film
I was set to go into production on a different short film. I was waiting and waiting for a couple of actors to get back to me about a first table read with the cast. While waiting, I said to myself, why don’t I crank out this idea I have for another short about a guy freaking out because of how he is ignored on social media. And thus, Like, Comment and Share (LCS) was written. I liked it better than what I was going to go into production with. So I canceled that project and set off to make LCS.
A week before shooting, one of my leads drops out of LCS, saying that he booked something bigger, and a family member had prostate cancer, and he wanted to be with him. So, I postpone the shoot and give strong thought to canceling. I was out about $1300 from the location I rented. I was feeling frustrated and defeated. I paused. I felt I owed it to the other actors who had worked hard, and in Lexi’s case, turned down another acting job. Shamar had prepared to miss a family member’s funeral. First thing I do is sign up for a lot of overtime shifts at work to make back the money I lost. Check. Next, I put out a new breakdown for the role I need to cast. The deal is, if I find someone I absolutely love for the role, the shoot is back on. But I wasn’t going to force it. I go through the video submissions; I call back 5 actors over zoom. I was ready to shut down the project and then I read with Aman. Dude was too good. Okay it’s back on! At that point I was determined to make LCS better than if it was made with the original cast. I rewrote the script to fit Aman, different crew, different location, worked through a block with one of the other actors… On many levels it just turned out better due to the delay.
I feel very fortunate to have worked with the group that I did.
