An intrepid intern confronts a painful reality on her first day at a prestigious new job.

This is my coming of age short. I wanted to explore at once a defining moment in a person’s life, the pitfalls of ambition, and the emotional complexities of young adulthood.

The story behind the film

My friend and frequent creative collaborator Catherine Atkinson needed some help with a dramatic sequence for her acting reel. What started out as a short scenario with no context quickly evolved into, paired down as it may be, one of my most personal shorts to date.

Written, shot and edited in three days with a crew of 2 people (Catherine and myself), A Little Burden is the prime example of what you might call “pure filmmaking”, in which the desire to tell a story perfectly intersects with the ability to make it quickly.
