The Struggle

The story behind the film
Our goal was to create a film to tell about the process of producing film with motion picture film: Super 8mm, 16mm and 35mm in the digital and IA age.
It is never easy and looks like a distant dream but it is worth.
“Shooting on film in Brazil has always felt difficult, almost like a distant dream. Over the past few years, my relationship with RunnerFilmes grew alongside the company itself and, with that growth, came the possibility of using film more consistently in my projects.
Most of my work as a filmmaker revolves around memory. I’m interested in how we deal with the past, the present, and the future, and in how we look at what is simple, everyday, and often overlooked. Daily relationships, small gestures, the passing of time. Within that, film has always given me exactly the feeling I search for in images.
We created a loose narrative about the internal conflicts of a young protagonist searching for cinematic creation. Music, struggle, silence, movement, and moments of breathing space all come together in a film that celebrates the creative process itself and the challenges that exist within it.” – Bruno Alves, Director
